A view of a calm Atlantic ocean from the coast of Atlantic Canada. This image was captured with an on-site watercolour painting and a series of photographs. Both resources were used when developing the oil painting in the studio. My technical objective was to capture the diffusion of low morning light caused by a thin veil of fog. My primary objective was to communicate the emotion generated by the sight, sound and smell of the place. The dissolution of the work at the bottom of the image creates tension between the illusion created and the materials used. This tension serves as a visual metaphor for the paradoxical nature of being. As a living creature, I am contained and complete but I am also a small fragment of a much larger field of energy in a state of constant flux.
