Both works are figurative historical works, so I thought it fitted best into the religious/spiritual category. Both Lucretia and Marat are people who really lived, Lucretia about 2000 years ago, Marat 200 years ago. Both people have been painted multiple times throughout art history, but never this way. I give Lucretia her honor back. In my work, instead of killing herself with a dagger out of guilt because of rape (the moment that is usually depicted in art history), she has killed the man who raped her, dressed in white. The usual naked woman/clothed man is also turned around in this work. In Marat, he is depicted from above. We see many women in water and bathtubs throughout art history, but never men. Marat is the only man who has been painted in a bath multiple times, yet we never see his nakedness. So, I painted this version, where his nakedness is visible.
