Golden SilenceContemporary Tonalism.
Golden Silence is a continuation of my journey inspired by contemporary Tonalism. My style has evolved as my colour palette has reduced, painting more about feelings, of a place, atmosphere and the appearance it evokes. About memory and longing, colour and form, vibrancy and subtly of an expressive landscape. Using a limited colour palette, initially painting using rough mark making creating the structure, adding textures and many layers, thick and thin glazes, eventually coming together in a final composition.I start with a photo for inspiration, which I may have taken on my walks in the countryside where I live or on my travels globally. It is a jumping off point quickly abandoned as images develop from my imagination and memories and the paint takes me on a journey of layers beyond the natural world where the temporal and ethereal reign together in harmony. I feel to paint the landscape is to become part of it, a witness to its ever-changing nature, absorbed in its visual poetry.I hope when people look at my painting they feel it is familiar, but foreign, mysterious and evocative
