Painted in studio using photographs and a painted colour study from life, with a model and prop.
A depiction of Jesus about to wash his disciples’ feet, found in the Bible in John 13:5. He is bowed over, in a position of humility, the viewer looking down on him. Yet his head is framed by the gold bowl like a halo or crown, his face reflected in the water radiant against the light. To clearly see the face we must choose to shift our perspective, as it is also our choice to discover more about Jesus in life. I chose my model because he brought a different look to the way Jesus has commonly been portrayed in art history.
